Sustainability-Focused Science Museum Development –
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi

Supporting BIS in developing a science museum that translates sustainability standards into engaging, accessible knowledge for industry stakeholders, students, and the public.

Sustainability standards play a critical role in shaping responsible industrial practices and resource efficiency. However, their technical complexity often limits their accessibility and adoption beyond regulatory and expert circles. This creates a gap between policy frameworks and public understanding, reducing the broader impact of sustainability initiatives across industries and communities.

To address this challenge, CSGE is supporting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), New Delhi, in the development of a sustainability-focused science museum. The initiative aims to transform technical standards related to energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and green building into engaging, experience-driven learning for a diverse audience including industry stakeholders, students, and citizens.

CSGE’s approach integrates environmental science, policy frameworks, and interactive design to create a compelling knowledge platform, including:

  • Development of exhibits on sustainability standards and resource efficiency
  • Simplification and communication of Indian Standards (IS codes)
  • Integration of interactive and experiential learning modules
  • Application of circular economy and life-cycle assessment concepts
  • Alignment with national climate commitments and ESG frameworks

By translating complex regulatory frameworks into accessible and engaging formats, CSGE enables wider understanding and adoption of sustainability standards. The project strengthens policy outreach, promotes responsible consumption, and builds awareness across both industry and society. It reflects CSGE’s capability to bridge standards, science, and public engagement—delivering solutions that not only inform but also influence behaviour and support India’s transition towards a more sustainable and resource-efficient economy.
